Dictionary: Academia Autoridades (O-R), 1737
Rodela. s.f. Escúdo redondo y delgado que, embrazado en el brazo izquierdo, cubre el pecho al que pelea con espáda. Llámase assi, segun Covarr. quasi rotéla, por ser redonda. Lat. Clypeus rotundus. Marm. Rebel. Lib.5. cap.26. Los otros iban armadas con lanzas, alabardas, espádas, y rodélas. Cienf. Vid. De S. Borj. Dedic. pl.10. Y aunque se embrazó la rodéla, quando estaba yá en el pecho una cruel punta, servió con todo esto de rebatir otras.

Rodela [Round shield]. s.f. Round and thin shield that, carried on the left arm, covers the chest of one that fights with a sword. They are called thus, according to Covarr. quasi rotéla, due to being round. Lat. Clypeus rotundus. Marm. Rebel. Lib.5. cap.26. The others went armed with lances, halberds, swords, and rodelas.
